The pH value of the swimming pool should be controlled within the range of 7.0 to 7.8 according to the GB37488-2019 standard. Within this range, the pH value will not cause irritation to human skin and eyes, and is more comfortable, and can promote disinfection effects.

Generally, the chemicals that can improve the pH value of the swimming pool are selected as the pH regulator of the swimming pool (because the disinfectants used in the swimming pool, such as trichloroisocyanuric acid, Chlorine dioxide and other disinfectants that are most commonly used, can reduce the pH value of the swimming pool), so we need to improve the pH value of the swimming pool. The commonly used regulators are "sodium hydroxide" and "sodium carbonate". The following is an introduction to the usage methods of two pH regulators for swimming pools.

Sodium hydroxide

Commonly known as caustic soda, caustic soda, caustic soda, or caustic soda. The principle is to improve the pH value of the swimming pool through the Combination reaction of Hydroxide ion ion and hydrogen ion.

Usage: Dose 10 grams per cubic meter of water for every 1.0 degree increase. That is to say, 10 kg of sodium hydroxide is needed to increase PH by 1 for 1000 cubic meters.

Sodium carbonate

Commonly known as soda, soda ash, or soda ash, it appears as a white crystalline powder. The principle is that carbonate ions react with hydrogen ions to generate carbon dioxide gas and water, thereby synthesizing hydrogen ions in the water and increasing the pH value of the swimming pool.

Usage: Add a dose of 15 grams per cubic meter of water for every 1.0 degree increase. That is to say, adding 15 kilograms of sodium carbonate can increase the pH value of 1000 cubic meters of water by 1.

[Safety Reminder]

①  When the pH value is low, swimmers may experience tartar, skin rash, peeling, cracking, eye pain, and numbness in the mouth.

②  When the pH value is too high, swimmers may experience symptoms such as peeling, large red patches on the skin, itching, and eye irritation.

③  When using sodium hydroxide, do not directly contact with the skin. Sodium hydroxide has corrosive effects on the skin and eyes. Protective measures should be taken when using it.
