Abstract: Caustic soda is a chemical widely used in industrial production, and plays an important role in textile, leather, pulp and paper, metallurgy and other fields. However, the large amount of caustic soda also has a certain impact on the environment. In this paper, the application, production process and environmental impact of caustic soda are studied and summarized in order to provide reference for rational application of caustic soda in industrial production and environmental protection.

As an important chemical material, caustic soda is widely used in textile, leather, pulp and paper, metallurgy and other fields. It is a white crystal, chemical formula Na2CO3, with strong alkalinity, can neutralize acidic substances, can also make acidic pigments into alkaline pigments. At the same time, caustic soda can also be used to produce glass, synthetic detergents and dyes. However, the use of large quantities of caustic soda will also have a certain impact on the environment. Therefore, how to rationally apply caustic soda and protect the environment is an urgent problem in industrial production.
II. Application of caustic soda in industrial production
1. Textile Industry
In the textile industry, caustic soda is used to clean textiles such as cotton yarn, silk and linen, as well as to decolor, neutralize and so on during dyeing. It neutralizes acids, making it easier for dyes to adsorb to the fiber, while improving the feel and gloss of the fiber.
2. Leather Industry
In the leather industry, caustic soda is mainly used in the soaking, tanning and dehairing of leather. It interacts with fatty acids and collagen to improve the softness and strength of leather.
3. Pulp and paper industry
In pulp and paper industry, caustic soda is mainly used to make pulp, neutralizing acids in wood fibers, making them softer and increasing the whiteness and gloss of paper.
